That is absolutely correct. In the cases I've seen the forum owner or administrator was an active participant and was found, with the other users of the website, liable for what was posted on the message boards. It's a sticky situation and merely labeling your comments as opinion does not necessarily protect you if the court finds your comments or posts responsible for damaging the reputation of those you're maligning. Even with newspaper forums, you are finding more and more cracking down of anonymous posting. There is at least one newspaper that forces users to use their real names and even charges for use, as a way to verify the name. A year or so ago a police department deemed a message board a danger to the community because of the false information being posted. It's really a new and growing field of litigation. Message forums are becoming yet another way to make greedy lawyers rich. |

There have been several precedent setting cases in which forum owners have been held responsible for the things said on their websites, to the tune of millions of dollars and/or jail time. More likely than not someone told the owner of this website he is ultimately liable for the things said here past, present and future. If the owner/moderator is making questionable posts themselves then he/she could be liable. If they are simply providing the forum, however, they are protected by 'section 230 of the Communications Decency Act'. Have you ever read the comments on the major news sites? Brutal, to say the least. None of them would allow comments if they were held liable for the comments made. They would go broke just in legal fees. Ultimate responsibility lies with the creator of the post in question. If it is ruled that something illegal may have taken place. MN |

If People didnt vote then they didnt vote, end of story. Even if you used the entire surplus in one year what happens the next year>>>dont you recall the 27% raise of just 5-6 years ago when the surplus was ZERO or 136K which is about the same It dont matter who is in there! A school board is like being tied to a cement block and jumping off a bridge! I say anyone who wants public service go for it! |

Well let's see. The next BOE meeting is July 13, 2010. It is now July 11, 2010. There is NO agenda posted on the PJBOE web page. I thought agendas ( with the exception of last minute emergencies) were supposed to be posted at LEAST one week out. I believe that is so the public can be aware of what the meeting will be about and come prepared with thoughts, ideas, and questions. Oh wait- that's right...we are "toothless idiots" without thoughts and ideas hence we are too low on the food chain to have any questions based in merit. Hey BOE - I have one burning question....WHEN is Xanthis moving to PJ? If correct that WAS in his contract which YOU have renewed. He should have a really nice selection of homes to pick from since so many are up for sale &/or foreclosure due to those great TAX increases. Or job cuts - you remember - those "pesky" school bus drivers you terminated. I guess he/you won't have any comment on that either. Anything to do with contracts, ethics or safety has a "mums the word" clause attached to it in your book. Maybe you can sandwich the questions and some answers about Mr. Xanthis' residence, the toxic waste spill remediation, a child molestor on staff ( YES he was- volunteer or otherwise), teen pregnancy, and OH YES that budegtary slush fund, in between patting yourselves on the back. |

Okay Decker- I answered your question, please answer mine since you are sooo in the know...what are our options? And BTW - the PJCSD did not "earn " that money - so it is a moot point as to how much we are supposed to keep in our savings accounts. And with the ever increasing taxation and inflation - WHO actually can afford to HAVE a savings account? |

Use it to pay down taxes. The PJ School taxes have become so outrageous I can not afford to pay them anymore, thus I will be moving. Also, I did not vote for the current board. If you look at voter registration, very few people voted. |

To Decker: No not everyone supported the current Board. And most registered voters did Not even vote! Return the surplus money to the tax payers please. My PJ school taxes have doubled in the few years that I have owned my home. Due to the excessive tax burden, I have my house up for sale. Our family can Not afford to live here. And No I will not attend their farce of a board meeting. I have watched it on video and the arrogance of those on the BOE astounds me and I am surprised that the residents are not more outraged than they already are. |

To DECKER: What do I want done with the surplus? Give it back to the taxpayers please. My PJ school taxes have doubled since I purchased my home a few years ago. I have my house up for sale due to the increased taxes, both PJ school and DP town tax. And no Sir, we did not all support the current board. Most registered voters did not even bother to vote! |

Is the TS gang or the BOE giving us options...or can we make suggestions...or is it not even on the table for discussion? |

I have a question? What do you want to do with the surplus--use it to pay down taxes, build a new building I thought having a surplus is a good thing. 4% seems very low considering, it just makes no sense, even if they had a 12% surplus, I was always taught have at least 10% of your salary saved So what do you want to do with this money?? |
